Thank you for allowing us to educate you about clutches. Because we use only brand-new parts and offer the industry’s longest warranty, we know quality is important to you. Quality is important to us, as well. Please be aware that your clutch has worn out over a period of time and the clutch becomes “suddenly new” after a clutch replacement. Don’t be alarmed that it feels different, or that it is more “grabby” than before. This is normal, especially with the newer non-asbestos clutches.

No matter how good of a job we do on any clutch, there are many things beyond our control that can greatly reduce the life of your clutch. It is incumbent upon us to check for these other things at the time of the repair so you get the maximum life from your clutch. We recommended at the time of the clutch replacement to correct problems that will affect clutch life.

Other problems that can shorten clutch life that we check for, include:

• Engine oil leaking onto the clutch
• Transmission fluid leaking onto the clutch
• Clutch linkage problems
• Clutch hydraulic problems (on hydraulically actuated clutches only)
• Flywheel problems
• Mis-alignment problems between the motor, transmission, or bellhousing

Once the rare occasion happens that a customer has a problem with one of our clutches, the most common reason we have seen in our 30+ years of being a clutch specialist is driver error. We assume every customer knows how to properly drive a stick shift vehicle and operate a clutch. A clutch failure due to driver error (or abuse) is specifically excluded from our warranty.

Driver error/abuse includes:

1. Revving the engine excessively when starting out.
2. Resting your foot on the clutch pedal.
3. ”Riding” the clutch (same as resting, but with more pressure)
4. Pulling heavy loads necessitating number 1 above.
5. Rocking the vehicle from 1st & reverse when stuck in mud or snow.
6. Drivers inexperienced in driving stick shift transmissions.
7. Slipping the clutch excessively for any reason.
8. Lugging the engine/clutch by being in too high of a gear for the vehicle speed.

By properly educating you, and helping you understand your vehicle, we are trying to help you get the maximum life from your clutch. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. However, the life of any clutch is ultimately up to the driver of the vehicle.

Headache Saving Tip: When teaching people inexperienced at driving a stick shift transmission, try this technique: When starting off from a dead stop, tell the new driver the goal is to have the clutch completely engaged by the time the vehicle has moved forward 20 feet from it’s starting point. By using this teaching method, not only do you prolong the clutch life, but you also give the driver a measurable goal. This relieves a lot of the stress associated with teaching any skill that heavily relies on “feel”, such as operating a stick shift vehicle with a clutch.
